What else can they NOT do for Selangor?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6929728634970659284.post-64574726383107163612014-08-27T13:20:28.006+08:002014-08-27T13:20:28.006+08:00When the Sultan asks for at least three names (mor...When the Sultan asks for at least three names (more than two), it indicates that he wishes to preserve the royal prerogative. PKR/DAP/PAS can provide more than 40 names, but have not, but does this make them ""biadap" (rude) but also "besar kepala" (big headed)"? No, it makes them stupid, or clever in a way I can't see. Ultimately, the MB must command the confidence of the majority in the assembly. This means that the Sultan is implicitly asking for three names that all the PR parties will support in votes of confidence. It also follows protocol and shows royal prerogative as well as following Malay custom and tradition. But the reality may be different from the pomp and ceremony. I'm sure the Sultan will meet with the candidates. So the other two named individuals could state that they support/prefer the Party's first choice and they may also state that they do not wish to have the role. Ok, protocol observed and Anwar gets his way. If this is so clear to so many, why is the other, confrontational track, being followed? It may be that Anwar does not believe that the Sultans should have the final say over political matters. This is may be the same view as his old mentor, Tun. I cannot imagine that the Terrenganu situation that occurred after GE12 would have under Dr M - at least there would be serious side effects on the Palace. So I don't believe that this is unplanned or uncontrolled. This is being set up as a show-down, purposefully and undoubtedly. The Sultan is also being boxed in, not just by Anwar, but also by his own advisors and through the public statements issued (by him? Or by others seeking to cause conflict). Even if an election is called, and, lets say, PR wins - what stops the same scenario reoccurring? This isn't just a Selangor issue, it will effect relations between Palace and Assemblies across the nation.
