Helping Out

I managed to catch up with my friend who is part of the group campaigning for BN in Gelang Patah.  We had a chat over dinner and she told me that her team consists of a few girls who managed to take time off from their day job to help out at their makeshift operations centre.

They are not Puteri members, but simply a group of friends who wanted BN to win here in Gelang Patah.  For the past couple of days, they have been reaching out to friends and strangers that reside in Gelang Patah, reminding them of their voting rights, helping them find their polling centres and providing general assistance where required, and implore them to vote for BN.

When I told my friend that I wanted to join them, she laughed and said that I wouldn't be able to fit it in my work schedule, and that I don't have the temperament to call up perfect strangers and ask them to vote for BN, being too combative and lacking in verbal subtlety.  Gee, thanks kak, I didn't realise how unpleasant I was.  But she gave me a Puteri Umno t-shirt, probably to soften the blow, and told me to wear that instead as a show of support.

However, she told me that the people that the group called were largely BN friendly and had readily expressed support for BN, some of them were actually young voters casting their votes for the first time.  Out of the thousand odd people they had called so far, only one had been negative.

Me: But you only called the Malay voters ...
Her: True, but at least we know that we have a high percentage of Malay support, in the nineties I should think.  Those people we called were random numbers that we got off the electoral rolls.
Me: But Gelang Patah is all about the Chinese ...
Her: You think MCA members are going to vote DAP and kill themselves off in the process?  What about their families?
Me: Err .. what do you think?
Her: Tinsel, kali inilah, let's just have some faith in the MCA people, shall we?  If they abandon their own party, then we know where not to place our trust ...  Just look at the big picture.  In Johor, Chinese are less than 40%.  In Malaysia as a whole, less than that, and they are confined to the urban areas.  Their growth rate is lower than the other ethnic groups.  If they fall for DAP's chauvinism, it's self-inflicted marginalisation and they only have themselves to blame, that is if they are capable of self-reflection and can see beyond their overwhelming self-pity.  Because, after GE13, as Tun M said, if the Chinese reject BN, there is no more "kongsi" with the Chinese, as they would not be represented in the BN government and BN's focus will be on developing the quality of life of the other ethnic groups.  Besides, if they are incapable of seeing any good in you all these while, why should we continue "mencurah air ke daun keladi"?

    1. Your people won't be laughing for much longer. If Gelang Patah Chinese chooses a rabid dog over the moderate man who developed Johor for their prosperity, our campaign after the elections will be to boycott Chinese businesses and goods.

Personally, I have already started. So have 2 of my friends.

  4. Expecting MCA leaders to continue their fights, i may be able to give, but having faith in them to talk their supporters to continue voting BN is another thing. Even the MCA-contolled The Star gives more coverage on DAP under the pretence of showing DAP bad antics. That's free advertisement to the opposition. Yes, BN took several pages to advertise in The Star but does't that mean BN has to pay to get exposure while the opposition can easily do it for free? Can rely on NSTP, yes, but how big is their circulation?

LKS will stop at nothing to bury MCA, just as they did to Gerakan in Penang. He is already causing slow death to PKR and wasn't Anwar who came up with the Pakatan strategy in 2008? LKS must have been jumping up and down then to hear that suggestion. I do believe PAS will be next to be screwed.

Racial harmony? Kongsi? I do not think these words even exist in his vocabulory. He just wants the Chinese to be united to come to power. The Chinese has risen but the Malays have not yet woken up. Agaknya, bila dah kena curah air panas baru nak bangun.

    2. I have been watching all the ceramah of LKS, I don't thing he said is special to the chinese. He talked about good governance and about anti corruption. Why MCA not talking about good governance and corruption in stead of harping on hudud which is totally no effect at all to Chinese community. Their candidate quality sucks. My area is in BB. You tell me how to vote? Voting a singing star as my MP?

    5. Enlighten me anon 15:53.

I have heard this statement many times from hardcore opposition supporters. Najib has really worked hard, they say, and Ghani is indeed a good man. But, they are in a wrong party. So, you prefer less worthy person to be your leader instead of the one who has been tested and proven to have done a good job?

If your leaders are disarray, how do you expect them to control the antics of their people? Even my hardcore DAP chinese colleague finally admitted (just last week) that corruption exists in DAP because he has seen it happen. At least his thinking is rationale because he still votes for DAP to ensure checks and balances in the government. Why do you vote DAP? Politicians are just that, politicians but for pakatan leaders, the way they rule will be "my way or the highway". Yeah, I hope they do abolish the tolls because that will be a long highway for you.

"Mencurah air didaun keladi" is an act of stupidity and waste of time ,that would be a perfect description to illustrate what the UMNO/Barisan effort all this years in trying to be fair to everybody in an effort to run a peaceful and stable government.
Largely the Malay understand and accept that, though at time the Malay feel that UNMO led Barisan government neglecting and looking less, on their needs and requirement, emphasizing to much on winning the hart and the minds of the Chinese knowing well that the act is just like "mencurah air didaun keladi".

Look like the Chinese are never satisfied,"dah diberi betis nak peha" ,UMNO/BN led government should be worn that this act of never ending effort could cause UMNO a set back ,just like what had happen in 2008.

  7. stupid tebing tinggi..... the issue here with UMNO is corruption, corruption and corruption !!

Not only majority of Chinese rejects UMNO/BN but a very large portion of Malay populations also rejected UMNO !!

    1. How about DAP, PKR, PAS corruptions?

Why are you not shouting "corruption, corruption and corruption !!
" to the DAP, PKR, PAS leaders?

No corruption meh in Penang, Kelantan, Selangor, Kedah?

The fact that you only mentioned UMNO instead of BN showed that you're anti-Malay. Purliiiz lah stop talking about "very large portion of Malay populations also rejected UMNO !!".. UMNO will win the most seats in this PRU13.

    2. What corruption? Why UMNO did not tell MACC to do something. Your Godly heart must tell you if you know corrution is going on. We know BN is corrupting and MACC is not doing anythinhg by giving free makan, rice etc to people. No wonder in UMNO Assembly, this is what UMNO did for vote them.

    3. I don't deny that there are greedy and corrupt politician in BN. Politic is where power, therefore wealth, are for quick & easy pickings. Slogans such as Pendidikan Percuma, Merakyatkan Ekonomi Selangor, Demi Rakyat, Pakatan Harapan Rakyat, etc, are mere rhetoric to entice people into voting for them and their quest.

When politicians shouted 'Change or Ubah', people must think what kind of change will that be. If BN politicians are bad, they probably have their own sets of relatives and cronies who might already be rich. With the more vocal electorates today, they might be afraid to indulge in more corrupt practices. Activist such as YB Wee Choo Keong could also keep an eye and 'check' on them. Pro-BN bloggers are known to have also lambasted the Government if what they did was wrong or shortchanged the rakyat.

However, if Pakatan politician were to take over, they would also be tempted to enrich their own sets of relatives and cronies, who are most probably not yet rich. Imagine the amount of rakyat's money that would be lost to the large number of these 'new' would be crooks. Just look at Nga Ko Meng when Perak fell. In just 49 days, he already gave a tailoring contract to his wife. He and his cousin Ngeh, even got huge track of timberland in Kelantan. (My own mischievous brother-in-law was very affluent, when PR ruled Perak then. He still owes me RM60k, though.)

Anyway, we seldom heard BN politician suing their critics. With Pakatan's gag orders, ban on journalist, threatening court order to silence dissidents and with their dictatorial leadership style of their own party, Malaysian must be aware on the danger of suppression on our freedom of speech, if Pakatan gets to rule. The way they run their party election is also undemocratic. The Ketua Umum, Secretary General and Chairman are self-elected. Nepotism is also rampant in the triumvirate Pakatan.

      Safe Malaysia from dictatorial politicians.
Say no to Dynasty kind of rule which breeds dictatorship and cronyism.
      So help us God.

  10. I agree. If the Chinese do not see the good and growing economy as a whole, there's no point for the government to keep supporting them. As a Chinese myself, I am deeply embarrassed by the things and words that the DAPs has spoken and even more embarrassed that their own supporters are so blind and narrow-minded. After all, which country in the world is 100% "bersih"?
