Aftermath

I got home very late last night, or rather this morning.  I spent the entire evening with friends at Persada and later had a long chat with my friend in the wee hours of the morning.  She's a Ghani loyalist who had campaigned tirelessly for the past two weeks in the back rooms of Umno Johor War Room operations centre.

I was expecting her to share my dismay at BN's dismal showing in Johor, but she was actually smiling in a clear sign of relief that the result wasn't too far off from her earlier forecasts and my initial analysis of the Johor situation.

"At least we managed to defend Labis, Tebrau and Pasir Gudang" she said, "and the loss of Batu Pahat is totally predictable the moment we found out Puad Zarkashi was fielded, against BN Johor's advice."

The following is a summary of all my previous thoughts of the political situation in Johor for reference.

Purple Cat's analysis - Pakatan's targets in Johor... - the initial indication of DAP's strategy for Johor
Where to, Hafiz? - where PAS was heading in Johor
Battlefield Johor - how marginalising the Malays will hurt BN in Johor
PKR Decimated - PKR's fate in Johor
Acid Test - a question whether Johor Chinese are racists or not has now been answered
Under Attack - how DAP planned their attack and why PKR won in Batu Pahat instead of Segamat
Reverse Racism - how the opposition used the very same tactics they accused Umno of to win GE13
Exclusively Yours - a question of whether the Chinese can rise above the politics of hate and racism
Helping Out - the possible outcome of the Johor Chinese open show of their racist tendencies

I think I was more disappointed with results than she was, but she reminded me of our previous conversation of what will happen to the Chinese should they choose the path set for them by DAP.  She said hopefully DS Najib had learnt a valuable lesson about what she termed as the "Chinese Avarice" and that Umno will now practice greater moderation when it comes to appeasing the Chinese community in Malaysia.

She also hoped that future BN Johor government policies should be revised to ensure that the ungrateful Chinese chauvinists and racists will be left to rot in their various urban ghettos, while the bulk of development funding can be re-directed to uplifting the lives of more deserving ethnic groups in the rural and semi-urban areas.

What cannot be denied is that the outcome of GE13 has certainly justified the proliferation of Perkasa-type organisations, and despite my misgivings, I agree with her, that the Malays and Bumiputra ethnic groups will need to counter Chinese chauvinism and arrogance in equal measure.

It is sad, but inevitable, that we can no longer avoid walking the path of ethnic polarisation and segregation.  I weep a little last night for what awaits my people should we continue along our blinkered in-fighting and shallow self-serving ways.

  1. As much as I want to agree with you, I feel very sad and sorry for the minority pro-BN Chinese supporters. As much as I want DAP out of Subang Jaya, my vote is nothing against all the rest of the thousands. But at least I know where my loyalty stands. And this is what I'm afraid. The minorities will have no where to turn for support. Because the Malays and Indians will think all Chinese are the same. But at the same time, the minority Chinese will not be able to comprehend with the Chinese Opposition. So ultimately, we're left to die a slow painful death on our own. Sigh.

    2. Yes, I feel sad for minority Chinese too. As Tinsel, I am part Chinese too.

What to do? Majority Chinese has spoken. They have set the course. The majority Malays will just reciprocate.

*Sigh* I have such high hope with Johorean Chinese. It is so sad that it was broken to pieces. *Double sigh*

    3. I don't know. Future seems so bleak to me. I'm glad that BN won. They have my vote from Day 1. But as a Chinese, none of the advantages stand on my side. While I seek stability and prosperity and peace, my fellow Chinese friends accuse me for refusing change; for being obstinate and cowardly. It's gonna be a hard road to thread on in the the future. Ultimately, it'll be the very own people I support and very own people dear to my heart that will drive me out of this land. I think all I can do now is work hard, save hard and find an alternative channel of living elsewhere. Sigh. How did we all ended up this way? =(

    1. No need for them to step aside, we will all walk hand in hand, together. The more, the better, the stronger and let to a more vocal presence and to ensure eye for an eye, tit for tat. Our children will have a land to call their own and we are responsible. Is is also good, in a way, that both guys lost as they won't carry any baggage associated with the govt where under Najib. pleasing the Chinese is a priority. I felt so side-lined.. Truly Najib got F***** and throughly sodomizied by the Chinese....and the battle starts now

Menangis lah. Nak reconcile lah. Apa hal?

Kita kena ajar cina bukan merayu dan sembah Cina supaya sokong UMNO.

      Gila apa?

Reconcilation adalah the wrong word. Cina nak kuasa sama macam bintang tiga. You want to give them power in tanah Melayu?

      Tak ada otak langsung.

  3. I think this is nothing to do with race. It is rather a class war. The urban people regardless of race supported the opposition. Overall BN get less votes from the rakyat, BN only got 47% vs 53% of the total votes. BN actually got less federal and state seats than last election. The BR1M obviously helped BN to win the votes of rural people but not the middle class. Now Najib has been given the mandate for next 5 years, he must do something to reduce the rich poor gap. Otherwise in next 5 years with growing of middle class, more will turn to opposition.

    1. Not all urbanites are middle-class, and not all rural Malays are in the lower income bracket. There are more urban working class in the flats of TUTA than in the rural settlements of Felda Taib Andak. The only similarity I can see in the Chinese voters of Taman Bukit Indah with that of Bandar Labis Barat is their ethnic background.

    2. "Urban tsunami" is exactly the spin Opposition is now trying to put on the Chinese tsunami and what they themselves had called a "Chinese revolution". Bullshit. It's chauvinism and racialism, through and through. The voting patterns of the Chinese nationwide is clear for all to see. Gelang Patah proves it.

      Delete
    3. My 2 cents worth : this is not just a Chinese Tsunami, what rides behind it is the christian / missionary tsunami.

      Delete
    4. Bigcat - you see the similarity in ethnic background but fail to note the differences in all other aspects? Does it not occur to you that individual chinese have different reasons for their vote even when it goes to the same party? (or even if it goes to MCA) But instead you lump all of them together just because of race and that many voted DAP.

But yet I'm sure later you can spin about how DAP and Anwar is two faced, somehow managing to gain the votes of

      1) poor chinese
      2) chinese educated chinese
      3) english educated chinese
      4) overseas m'sian chinese
      5) secular chinese
      6) buddhist chinese
      7) free thinkers
      etc. etc.

You honestly believe they all voted one way or another only because they are chinese?

  4. I agree with your friend. A big majority in Johor and a big majority in Parliament, despite losing the popular vote. All this equals strong and stable government. If the concern is about moderation, Najib has the mandate to change just two areas of law and the opposition will crumble at GE14. The first changes are to eliminate all race based restrictions in public life. It doesn't matter that no Chinese Malaysian will ever be PM, just that there is no restriction in the law. The second is to address the concerns of Chinese regarding education. If you want to go further and encourage more moderation, the electoral boundaries need to be based on centres of population rather than ghetto-izing groups. Najib has started well with welfare programmes based on people's needs and I think his second term will be the start of something special for Malaysia. Also, even if the opposition won a few seats in Parliament, a strong opposition is good to ensure that the Government knows it has to perform. Congratulations to all winners and the security services that kept the GE peaceful. Anwar, time to shut up and accept the results and know that PR still needs to work harder to win people's trust. So, all in all, a very good day for BN.

  5. Aiyo again drama la you people.

PR won 51% of popular votes with more seats in Selangor due to support of Malays & Indian voters. Terengganu nearly fell to PAS this time and Kelantan hold. PAS won some seats in Pahang Malay heartland.
Btw, Zulkifli Perkasa lost big in Shah Alam with its 70% Malay, 14% Indians voters.

In 1999, Chinese supported that Dr Mahathir against the Malay revolt for Anwar Ibrahim. I didn't hear UMNO fellas thanking the Chinese for saving their asses...

    So sad la you guys.

    2. Also, PR won big, but notice which seats are taken by DAP, and who is the biggest winner in the Opposition in terms of seats. PKR and PAS are just Trojan horses, hiding the Chinese Chauvinist party that is DAP.

Chinese also supported UMNO within BN when times are good and the economy is soaring under Dr Mahathir. I didn't hear Chinese fellas thanking him for that, instead they insult and call him racist terms.

UMNO/BN will use race again as part of their campaign strategy moving forward. So no surprise there... PR will focus on fair economy for all, not just tycoons and cronies.

Economic growth and bread-and-butter is important to every Malaysian, Malay Chinese & Indian. Any government that fail to address this will be punished by voters, irrespective of race...

      Bullshit.

"UMNO/BN will use race again as part of their campaign strategy moving forward. So no surprise there..."
UMNO will do that because UMNO *is* a Malay party. At least it has the balls to declare that, unlike DAP. DAP will play its chauvinism card throughout the next 5 years. No surprise there.

"PR will focus on fair economy for all, not just tycoons and cronies."
Bullshit. Explain Penang, please - where are the low and medium cost housings?

"Economic growth and bread-and-butter is important to every Malaysian, Malay Chinese & Indian."
And how exactly are the Chinese bread and butter not served? Are Chinese prevented from setting up a company? No access to business loans? Can't work? Have to pay higher taxes? Do you not hold 70% of the nation's wealth? The statistics go on and on.

"Any government that fail to address this will be punished by voters, irrespective of race..."
Bullshit. The Chinese just don't want to be ruled by Malays, whome they view as inferior.

We give them a benefit of a doubts that they are different from the rest of their counterparts because we practise moderation, but I guesss we know now what the Chinese kept in their heart in the past few months.

We still be gonna the same, shake their hands like they shake ours, but we can never look at them the same way again..

What a stpid idea from the brainchild of Dollah Bodowi and the soft Ghani Osman that make you lost everything..hahaha.Instead of making IRDA you should built bigger SRAB(Southern Region Army Base)in that area. Don't use tissue paper at all. Better don't buy foreign cars since many of their parts are sourced from china. Don't use electricity since many of electrical components are made in china. Don't use light bulbs, don't use batteries. No candles too, just use local coconut oil.

Don't buy houses or condos, chances are developer is chinese. Wear clothing made in Indonesia and not china, but make sure indon manufacturer is not indon Chinese.
